No. Our Qkiñas are 100% natural. The preservation process is based exclusively on cooking and vacuum packaging, which allows us to maintain all the properties of the Galician chestnut without the need for chemicals or added sugars.
2. Do I need to cook them before eating?
No, it is not necessary. The Qkiñas are already cooked and peeled. You can eat them directly from the package as a healthy snack, or incorporate them into your favourite dishes.
3. Are they suitable for coeliacs or those intolerant to gluten?
Yes, chestnuts are naturally gluten-free. Additionally, there is no cross-contamination in our production process, making them a safe and energising food for people with coeliac disease.
4. How long do they last when sealed?
Thanks to our packaging process, Qkiñas have a long shelf life. You can check the best before date on the packaging (usually several months). We recommend storing them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
5. I have opened the package and have some left over, how should I store them?
Once the package is opened, you should keep them in the refrigerator. To prevent them from losing their natural moisture, we recommend transferring them to an airtight container or sealing the original packaging well. Consume them within a maximum of 2-3 days.
6. Can they be frozen?
Yes! If you want to extend their shelf life once opened, you can freeze them without any problem. When you are ready to use them, let them defrost in the fridge or add them directly to hot stews and soups.
7. Why do some chestnuts have a darker tone?
This is completely natural. As a handmade product without chemical whiteners, the pigmentation of the chestnut may vary slightly depending on the piece or the cooking process. This does not affect their taste or quality.
